The businesses and institutions that occupy the Corridor employ 55,000 people -18% of the city’s workforce. Together, they generate £2.8 billion (22.5% of the city’s Gross Value Added, GVA), while over 40% of activity is knowledge intensive, almost double the national average.
Now, the Corridor is changing, and the Corridor Manchester partnership has been formed to drive future economic growth and investment.
The first partnership of its kind in the UK, Corridor Manchester will oversee capital investment in the area predicted to be worth £2.5 billion. This investment will drive a programme of development that overhauls under-utilised land and buildings and secures major infrastructure improvements.
This programme will ensure that, by 2020, the Corridor generates £4.8 billion GVA and supports a workforce of 77,000.
Underpinning this programme is our vision for the Corridor: that it will become a byword for originality and smart creativity, a place where knowledge is put to work, where research is applied and both radical thinking and experimentation actively encouraged.
We are already working on several projects to deliver this vision.
