This proposal, which gives priority to public transport, cyclists and pedestrians, presents a once in a lifetime opportunity to change the face of Oxford Road. Footpaths will be widened, new cycle paths installed and the size of the carriageway reduced.

Our ambition is to look at how we can build on this activity and further improve the public spaces in and around the Corridor – through public art, or innovative and fun street furniture. Does a bus stop have to look like a bus stop, for example? What can we do with street lighting? How can we take advantage of our new super fast broadband? And how can we make more use of the green spaces that line the Corridor?

There is much to consider, not least how to reflect the different communities that call the Corridor home, or the different personalities of Oxford Road as it moves from the city centre out towards Whitworth Park. But by working closely with partners, businesses and communities, we hope to secure the funding required to deliver a meaningful and lasting change to the look and feel of Oxford Road – through innovative, exciting, green and beautiful public spaces and transport links.
