Town Hall Complex & Central Library


The Town Hall Complex programme of refurbishment and transformation is underway. This 63,174 sq m (680,000 sq ft) transformational refurbishment will revitalise the civic heart of the city with the full programme including the Town Hall Extension, Central Library, Library Walk and St Peter’s Square.

Central Library will re-open in December 2013 as a world-class library complex with more space available to visitors than ever before.

Manchester City Council is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and through design and behavioural changes, the refurbishment aims to achieve a 41% carbon reduction across the Town Hall Extension and Central Library.
