Nowgen

Nowgen is a leading centre for genetics in healthcare and sets out to inform and improve the practice of genetic medicine. It is part of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Manchester Biomedical Research Centre, specialising in genetic and developmental medicine.

Nowgen is a partnership between CMFT and The University of Manchester.

Nowgen’s work draws on a diverse range of disciplines to: * Involve the public and patients in dialogue about genetic medicine;

  • Develop innovative forms of service delivery;
  • Improve the practice of genetic medicine through applied health services research;
  • Deliver professional training;
  • Support biohealth industries;
  • Inform national healthcare practice and policy development.

The Nowgen Centre for Genetics in Healthcare was completed in January 2005. It is located at the interface of The University of Manchester and Central Manchester Hospitals. The Centre was part–funded by the Northwest Regional Development Agency and the European Regional Development Fund.The close proximity to the Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility, the Manchester Incubator Building and Core Technology Facility, and Manchester Science Park make the Nowgen Centre an ideal venue for academic, clinical and business conferences, meetings and events in the North West.
