NHS North West
NHS North West is the Strategic Health Authority (SHA) for the North West area and is one of ten SHAs in England. They provide strategic leadership for the region’s healthcare and ensure the £12 billion annual investment in staff and services delivers the best possible care and support for the public and patients. As a strategic health authority, NHS North West provides leadership for all NHS organisations across the region.
They make sure NHS services in the North West provide high-quality, clinically-safe services and spend taxpayers’ money effectively. Improving public health and reducing health inequalities are also important strategic objectives.
NHS North West has overall responsibility for the performance of 24 primary care trusts (PCTs), 23 acute trusts, eight mental health trusts, seven specialist trusts (including children’s cancer and learning disability) and the North West Ambulance Service.
They have a role to play in helping trusts achieve foundation status and they support trusts and PCTs to improve their performance, make their services more accessible and develop the skills of their workforces.
