Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT)
As the leading provider of specialist healthcare services in Manchester, CMFT treats more than a million patients every year. Its five specialist hospitals are home to hundreds of world class clinicians and academic staff. CMFT is committed to providing the best care and treatment, with a far reaching agenda of research and innovation.
The £500million investment in the new hospital on the Corridor provides an integrated complex that brings together services from five CMFT hospitals; Booth Hall Children’s Hospital, Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, Manchester Royal Infirmary, Saint Mary’s Hospital for Women and Children and the Royal Eye Hospital.
As a result of these redevelopments, The Corridor is now the largest clinical academic campus in Europe.

World Class Clinical Research
Clinical research is the cornerstone of first-class healthcare for Manchester and the CMFT has a research portfolio to be proud of.
With excellent facilities and internationally renowned researchers, the CMFT are gaining a global reputation for pioneering research in areas such as genetics and developmental medicine.
In partnership with The University of Manchester and other collaborators, the CMFT are rapidly making Manchester the centre of cutting-edge research to improve healthcare worldwide. In April 2008 they benefitted from the award of the Manchester Biomedical Research Centre by the National Institute for Health Research, being designated as a specialist centre of excellence in genetics and developmental medicine.
The Research and Innovation Division manages and co-ordinates the infrastructure and resources that are used to support research in the Trust. Through TrusTECH and the North West NHS Innovation Hub, the division also helps staff to identify and protect innovative technologies and services that can be commercialised or shared to improve patient care.
The CMFT is working with its partners to attract the necessary resources to establish itself as a recognised research hospital. This will help them to continue to draw in more research resources and funding, and achieve their vision for Manchester as a world-class research facility that’s second to none.
