Kro Bars

Kro is a Danish village pub. The Ruby family, who run Kro, come from the West coast of Jutland in Denmark. The head of the family, Borge, trained to be a chef and then during his national service was the chef for the King of Denmark, on the Royal Yacht. He then came over to work in the London Hilton as the bars’ manager, which was followed by a time managing the Danish Food Centre, Cross Street, Manchester.

Mark Ruby, Borge’s son, also trained to be a chef and worked in the Royal Hotel, Copenhagen and on the QE2.

The Ruby family opened Kro Bar near the University of Manchester in 1999 and following their great success, opened Kro2 opposite the Manchester Metropolitan University campus. The Ruby’s also opened Kro Piccadilly and out of the city, Kro Heaton Moor.

The Ruby’s are true entrepreneurs and have added much to the fabric of Manchester and the Corridor.
